“RESPONSIBILITY OF U.S.”
Senators J. H. Ball (Minnesota) and Senator Robert M. La Follette, jun., said that they thought the United States had some responsibility, but believed that the United Nations was the proper agency to handle Palestinian affairs. The idea of using American troops either to disarm illegal Jewish armies or to establish order if the new Palestine immigration policy led to outbreaks is generally opposed among members of Congress, nor is there any general support in Washington for permitting any large-scale immigration of Jews into America. The correspondent says that it is conceded at Washington that the disarming of illegal Jewish forces would be a considerable undertaking, perhaps leading to bloodshed, but official circles do not -consider that the disarming of those forces is a necessary prerequisite to the new immigration policy-
Representatives of Pan-Arab organ- . isations in Egypt carried a resolution I last night warning that a revolt throughout Islam and the Arab East would follow the implementation of the British and American committee’s recommendations. They also decided to form a joint action committee to fight the committee’s report, and called for the Arab nations and the Islamic world to re- ' act promptly. The Jerusalem correspondent of the “Daily Mail” says that he has just returned from a 200-mile drive from Dan to Beersheba and from Jaffa to i Amman, across the Jordan. He says that during the trip he saw recentlybuilt camps, air bases, and other military installations which are already housing more than 100.000 British troops. The Army and the Air Force are ready to face any Arab or Jewish uprising
