BLACK MARKET ALLEGATION
REPORT OF AUDITOR OF SYDNEY CLUB
(Rec 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 4. Allegations of black marketing by the Sydney Masonic Club will be investigated by the Rationing Commission. A detailed investigation will begin when the details of the report by the auditor (Mr W. H. Bayley) ,are made known to the commission. A 19-page report made by the auditor when he refused to certify the balance-sheet.is now being circulated to all members. . The report alleged that serious disci epancies and “leakages” had occurred. It referred in detail to dealings in beer, spirits, cigarettes, and food and alleged that they had been diverted from the benefit of members. In his report Mr Bayley said that in his opinion the trading and financial position of the club had not been fully protected and that the interests of members had been adversely affected. Before the meeting to which he presented his report was held, Mr Bayley is reported to have received an anonymous telephone call threatening violence. He applied for police protection. and detectives were on duty at the meeting hall.
