HUSBAND BOOED AT WIFE’S FUNERAL
(Rec. 9.40 p.m.) LONDON, March 4. Shouting “Chuck him in,” 300 angry women threw snowballs, earth, and stones at a man standing at his wife’s graveside at her funeral at the Mexboiough cemetery. A crowd of neighbours booed- and hissed as the cortege left for the cemetery and again booed when the husband appeared behind the coffin. As the vicar turned from the graveside after the burial service the shouting and stoning started. The body of the man’s 34-year-old wife was recently recovered from a
canal. Raid on Abattoirs. — The first blow in New South Wales following the declaration of war on the meat black market by the Federal Government was a raid by more than 40 detectives, customs officers, and Prices Commission inspectors shortly after dawn yesterday on the Sidney state abattoir. Surprised sellers in the mutton and beef section found themselves being accosted and searched bv men carrying warrants. Papers and evidence will be examined to determine whether proceedings will be taken.—Sydney, March 4.
