Presentation From Gurkhas Indian troops of a Gurkha regiment with a distinguished record of service recently presented the master of. the New Zealand ship Monowai, Captain ,G. Morgan, with one of their famous kukris. The regiment was going home from Italy in the Monowai and the presentation was made by the brigadier commanding the troops before the ship reached Karachi. In a letter tc a New Zealand friend Captain Morgan said that although he felt he had been highly honoured he attributed the gesture to the Indians’ high regard for the New Zealand Division with which they had served for nearly six years. “They looked on the New Zealanders as perfect soldiers and when they found themselves homeward bound on a New Zealand ship they were happy to give me something to commemorate their long association with men of the Dominion,” wrote Captain Morgan “You might think these sentiments just tosh, but to me it was the greatest of many fine tributes which have been paid to our division.”
