Water Shortage in Auckland Further water restrictions, involving, the closing of all fresh water swimming baths except those having circulating filtration systems, and the complete prohibition of the washing of vehicles by hoses were announced by the chairman of the Auckland City Council’s works committee, Mr A. S. Bailey. Commercial garages, using hoses to wash vehicles, were exempted from the restrictions imposed last week. Mr Bailey said that for the week ended yesterday, the first full week since the restrictions were imrosed, an average daily saving of only .600.000 gallons had been effected. Before the restrictions began the daily loss to the dams was 11.700.000 gallons. It was now 10,100,000 gallons. The total storage to the dams yesterday morning was 677,000,000 gallons. With a daily loss of 10,000.000 gallons, the Auckland supply would be exhausted by about the middle of April. It was evident, Mr Bailey said, that the public had not been sufficiently impressed with the need for economies. Every | citizen was again asked to conserve i water in every possible way.—(PA.)
