RUSSIANS IN DEBATE
Sir, —The “Manchester Guardian’s" statement that Mr Vyshinsky’s “lack of oratorical ability and his weakness in debate’ ’ may. be attributed to the fact that he has never participated in a debate, provides an interesting assertion for analysis. Verbal demagogues often succeed in creating an entirely distorted impression' of the true facts. This flow of rhetoric is their stock in trade. Mr Stalin characterised these individuals as “idle chatterboxes” who rarely translate their flowery effusions into action.— Yours, etc., D.H.C. February 8, 1946.
