UNO AND FOOD CRISIS

(Rec. 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 9. The Big Five will sponsor a resolution which Mr Attlee or Mr Bevin will present to the General Assembly of the United Nations on Monday or Tuesday urging the nations of the world to grow all the food possible to avoid famine. The resolution urges all governments and people to take immediate and drastic action, both directly and through the international organisations concerned, tQ conserve supplies by securing the adequate collection of crops from producers by avoiding waste, and by ensuring the maximum production of grain in the coming season. It notes that several of the United Nations recently announced measures to reserve grain supplies for direct human consumption and to secure increased production. It urges all governments to publish all possible information about their own supplies and requirements of cereals and the steps they have taken to achieve the objects of the conservation of supplies. It req'uests the international organisations concerned with food and agriculture to publish full information of the world food position and the future outlook and to intensify their efforts to obtain all relevant information' about the food position to assist the governments in determining their short-term and long-term agricultural policies.
