POLAND AND JEWS

PROMISE OF FULL . PROTECTION EMIGRATION ENCOURAGED (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) WARSAW, Jan. 6. The Polish Goyernment ’was giving every right of protection to Jews, ana anti-Semetic activity would be severely punished, said the Prime Minister (Mr Osubku-Morawski). Poland supported the emigration of Jews to Palestine and other countries, but the Jews should not resort to illegal attempts to leave the country. There had been cases of Jews having been murdered in Poland, he said. The murderers would be punished. The situation of the Jews had improved lately. Only 80,000 Jews remained in Poland out of the pre-war total of 3,000,000. The Associated • Press correspondent in Warsaw says: “Jews are continuing to leave Poland by the thousands, but there is no evidence of widespread anti-Semetic activity and there are no known incidents of mass attacks on Jews since the mob burned the Krakow synagogue last August. Two Polish soldiers were sentenced to death for participation in this attack.”
