RESULTS OF EIGHTH ROUND Eighth round results in the Victory Chess Congress championship last night still leave Steele and Lepviikmann (Wellington) in the lead. The latter, with a win against Darwin (Canterbury) has seven points (six wins and two draws)., Steele has 6J wins, his match against Stewart (Canterbury) last night being adjourned in an even position. Abbott (Canterbury) retains third place with six points. Wade, present champion, is next with 5J points, having wins against McGilvray and in his adjourned game against Kelling. McNabb (Wellington) has five points and an adjourned game against Gyles. Stewart (Canterbury) has four points and one adjourned game. Key games in the championship draw for this afternoon are Lepviikmann v. Stewart and Steele v. Abbott. Others are: Wade v. Darwin, Kelling v. McGilvray, Gyles v. Hardy, Mrs Abbott v. McNabb. Seventh round results were: Steele beat Mrs Abbott; McNabb beat Kelling; -Lepviikmann beat McGilvray; Wade beat Hardy; Abbott beat Gyles; Darwin beat Stewart. In an adjourned game, Wade beat Kelling. Major Open Tourney With the completion of several adjourned games, the major open tourney has been clarified and is now in a most interesting stage. Miss Hollis (Auckland) leads with six points from Wood (Wellington) and Sim (Palmerston North), each si. and Webllng (Wellington), five, with one adjourned against Mitchell (Canterbury), who has 41 points. Webb (Canterbury) leads in the firstclass tourney with six wins. Woolley (Canterbury), four wins and two losses, is at presnt in second place. *.
