The Most Rev. James Michael Liston, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, yesterday celebrated his silver jubilee as a bishop, having been consecrated 25 years ago as Coadjutor Bishop of Auckland. Bishop Liston was born-in Dunedin in 1881, and succeeded the late Bishop Cleary as Bishop of Auckland in 1929. By his own request there will be no public celebration, even his own"'diocesan weekly journal making no reference to it.—(P.A.) Captain C. H. Upham, V.C. and bar, was unanimously elected an honorary life member of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral by the association's general committee yesterday. Lieutenant JP E. D. Stringleman, R.N.Z.N.V.R. (Air), who was on the staff of the Canterbury Public Library before he enlisted in the Navy, is at present attached to the staff of the Manchester public libraries. He expects to return to Christchurch early next year. A decision to write to Lord Bledisloe congratulating him on his appointment as president of the Royal Agricultural Society was made by the general committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday. The secretary (Mr M. E. Lyons) mentioned that since Lord Bledisloe left New Zealand, he had kept in touch with the association. The appointment of Mr Paul Molineaux. of the staff of Christ's College, to a position in the Colonial Service, was announced at the college prizegiving last evening. Mr Molineaux has been a house tutor at the college for two years. Mr C. Biggs. Conservator of Forests. Hokitika, who will leave early in the New Year on transfer to Nelson, was bidden farewell by members of the Westland Catchment Board. 'He will be succeeded by Mr R. B. Collett (Wellington), who was formerly stationed at Hokitika. The Rev. Father J. Curnow. who was recently ordained to the priesthood, has been appointed to the Cathedral staff, Christchurch, and will take up his duties at ithe week-end. Regret at the departure from the school of Mr E. J. D. Hercus, Dr. A. L. M. Perry, and Captain W. Hoar was expressed by the headmaster (Mr A. E. Caddick) at the prize-giving ceremony of the Christchurch Boys' High School last evening. Mr Hercus, he said, was retiring after 23 years' service at the school. Captain Hoar was retiring after an association with the school of 34 years as drill instructor sn'.'. secretary, and Dr. Perry had recently been appointed headmaster of the Waimate High School.
