BABY FOUND IN CHURCHYARD

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 5. The body of a newly-born child was found to-night in an Auckland churchyard. The baby had been thrown there, apparently in an effort to dispose of it, but was still alive when found. It is expected to live. Two residents of Epsom who.were passing St. Andrew's Church, -Epsom, about 8.30 p.m., heard the cry of a child in the churchyard, which is divided from the road by a fence. On investigation they found a newly-born male child wrapped in newspaper, and enclosed in a twine sack, which was not tied up. It appeared that the child in the sacK had been thrown over the fence from St. Andrew's road. Assistance was obtained from the Rev. F. P. de L. Willis, of St. Andrew's vicarage, and the infant was taken to Dr. Keenan, of Mount Eden It was found to be suffering from a leg injury, probably caused by the fall, but the opinion was expressed that the child would live. It has been removed to the Auckland Hospital, The police are making efforts to trace the mother.
