WELLINGTON TRAM STRIKE

SERVICE TO RESUME TO-DAY

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 5. ,rr N ,?- trams or city council buses ran in Wellington to-day, when tramway workers held a second one-day strike The normal service will be resumed to-morrow, but failing a settlement of their claims by noon on Thursday, of next week the men will strike again on Friday, December 14. Seven hundred tramwaymen from a union membership of 776 met for five hours to-day to determine the next step in their dispute with the Wellington City Council over the cancellation of the war loading bonus, and the refusal of the council to provide transport for early morning workers. A large body of the men argued in favour of continuing the strike to-morrow, but after hearing the views of the national executive of the Tramway Employees' Union the meeting decided that work would be resumed.

A new development was reported today. It was an invitation from the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr S. Ritchie, for the parties to meet. This they will do to-morrow afternoon.
