R.A.P. PACIFIC SERVICE.
DISCONTINUANCE OPPOSED BY NEW ZEALAND

WELLINGTON, Dec. i As soon as the information was received very strong representations were made to the United Kingdom Government to countermand the orders to discontinue the R.A.F. transport com mand’s Pacific service, said the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F., Jones) in the House of Representatives this afternoon. He was replying to an urgent question by Mr E. P. Aderman •<Opposition, New Plymouth) Mr Jones said the New Zealand Government was advised that,, with the cessation of hostilities against Japan, the service could no longer be justified on military grounds. The possibility of instituting a civil air service across the Pacific as an interim arrangement, pending thp inauguration of a regular British Commonwealth Pacific service was, however, being explored, and the Nevy Zealand Government was at present awaiting the further views of the United Kingdom authorities.
