New Zealand, one of England's best customers for carpets, had advised the authorities in England that, she would import carpets as soon as they were available. Production difficulties in England during the war had caused a shortage of carpets in New Zealand. Local production had bean on a small sc^ u Only. and the British carpets which had been imported had gone, . the most part, to hospitals and similar institutions.
