KEEPING VEGETABLES FRESH
SUCCESS CLAIMED FOR ICE FREEZE PROCESS fP.A.) WELLINGTON, December 3. A quantity of vegetables from Pukekohe were keenly suoght hy reteilers at the Wellington markets this morning. They included peas, carrots cabbage, lettuce, and spinach; ana though, they were picked on Thursday and Friday in hot weather and stood throughout yesterday in the hot sun, they were described as comparing rr.ore than favourably with local crops more recently gathered. This is the result of what is called the ice freeze process. The vegetables were passed in crates through ice-cold water at the Internal Marketing Department plant at Pukekohe, and 'when the crates were put in closed trucks crushed ice was sprayed between them. The system avoids the disadvantages of actual freezing and is claimed to be simple and inexpensive."
