* AUSTRALIAN TOURNEY NEARS END SYDNEY, September 19. Lajos Steiner could only draw his game against A. L. Miller In the fourteenth round of the Australian chess championship, and with one round to go the fate of the title is still in doubt. Purdy put himself out of the running by losing to A. G. Shoebridge. but Wade (New Zealand) won his game with M. Green and he now has a chance to win the title. With one round to play, the leaders’ scores are:—Steiner 11, Wade 101, Purdy and Lazare each 91, Green 8J (with one adjourned), Koshnitsky 8, Goldstein 7} (with one adjourned). Crown 71, Klass 7.
