NOVEL BANNED
— * — BEST SELLER IN AMERICA (P.A.) DUNEDIN, September 19. “Forever Amber,” a best selling American novel, which has for some time been banned in the Commonwealth of Australia, is now prohibited entry into New Zealand. A decision to this effect by the Customs Department has been communicated to New Zealand booksellers. The book is described as a publication that “gives prominence to sex,’’ and therefore cannot be imported under import licences for printed books. There are no copies of “Forever Amber’’ in New Zealand, except a few that have been brought in from the United States. An English edition was to be published at the end of last month, and under the customs decree copies on the way will presumably be seized on their arrival in this country.
