GRACIE FIELDS BROADCAST

Sir,—The manner in which the broadcasting authorities so poorly tried to mislead the thousands of listeners to believe they were actually listening to Grade Fields from the Theatre Royal on Monday night is not much to their credit They could have been honest enough to say it was to be a recorded programme from some previous concert. The trick was completely exposed when, promptly at 8 o’clock, instead of an ovation and fitting welcome to the great artist, we heard Grade immediately burst into song, without any - introduction whatsoever. Actually, Gracie did not appear till about 8.20, being preceded by the pipers and Henri Penn, pianist: but on the broadcast she was on the air from 8 o'clock.—Yours, etc., HOSPITAL PATIENT. August 7, 1945.
