FUTURE OF MILITARY FORCES

Sir Why is it that of all the governments interested in the disposal ox their respective military forces, ours is the only one that cannot make a decision? Owing to over-commitments by the Government, and the muddling by the mahpower committees, there is a serious strain on'production; yet thousands of men are kept in the overseas forces, simply wasting their time. Every intelligent person must realise that to bring them back would ease the food and transport problem. Is u that they realise their inability to solve the rehabilitation problem that repatriation would create? It Is high time that the people of this Dominion demanded from their leaders less talk, and more KUom-Youm^^ June 25, 1945. Sir,—According to Mr Nash a small force is to be sent to the Pacific. What is the good of a small force unless they are joined with another force? If put into action on their own they will be wiped out like flies. Surely there have been enough killed now without sending more into action in a small Strength. Why should men who have been twice before to the Pacific and are now in Italy be sent back again? It was not their f-iult they were not sent to the Middle East when some of them enlisted in 1940. I think it high time the Grade 1 single men here were made to do their share overseas and let those who have done three years overseas, whether in Pacific or Middle East, come bome.—Yours, etc., 1940 WIFE. June 25, 1945.
