WINSTON CHURCHILL

Sir,—l had hoped an abler pen than mine would voice the pain so many of us feel at the spectacle ol our grand British Prime Minister perambulating the countryside, after years of the heaviest responsibility any man has been called on to bear, in the cause of a General Election. Ceuld we have envisaged such a thing happening when in our darkest days Britain stood alone and he hurled defiance at our enemies and so rallied a Seemingly spent nation. His epic was: “We will fight in the air, on the seas, on the beaches, in the streets, etc., etc. We will never surrender.’’ What courage, what dignity. Surely, come what may, we will never forget him. He is John Bull personified. Let us send him our sincere wishes and so give the lie to the charge against us, not undeservedly earned, I am afraid, of having short memories.—Yours, etc., 'LILLIAN H. GEARY. June 25. 1945. .
