NGAI-TAHU CLAIM
Sir,—The present Government has, de facto, admitted * claim find made a sincere and practical effort towards a solution. Your correspondent, Hilda M. Traill, apparently doe? not want a practical solution; she wishes the claim to exist in perpetuity—a bone of contention between the two races for ever. Maori and pakeha fight and die together to-day to defend New Zealand and for a lasting peace. Must the relations between our peoples be forever beclouded, unborn generations of pakehas under bond to similarly unborn Maoris, because of events that have passed into history, 1 suggest that your correspondent might well examine the matter from the broader human standpoint.—Yours, etc.. June 20, 1945. G.TM.
