SWIMMING
CANTERBURY CENTRE ANNUAL MEETING HELD "We are In as healthy a condition financially as this centre has ever been in.” said the chairman (Mr J. G. Ironside) in presenting the report and balance-sheet at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Amateur Swimming Centre. “However, I hope that some effort will be made to build up the fixed deposit until the interest will take care of the recurring expenditure. If this is done; the annual revenue can be expended on the fostering of swimming within our district.” The report stated that during the summer months 230 children and adults had attended classes in the evening, but the panel of coaches appointed had been inadequate. It was to be hoped that clubs would co-operate with the centre in this service. During the year 2653 distance certificates had been awarded to school children. Mr Ironside moved that the report and balance-sheet be adopted. Appreciation of the services of the retiring secretary (Miss D. Brown) and Mr Ironside were given by several members, and a motion of thanks was carried by acclamation. , , , . The following officers were elected for the 1945-46 season:—president, Mr V. G.
