ALLIES BAFFLED BY BRITISH MINE

OPENING OF BREMEN POET DELAYED LONDON, June 11. “A British secret weapon is delaying the opening of the port of Bremen, which has been assigned to supply the American Occupation Army in Europe," says the correspondent of the British United Press in Germany. “The weapon is. a mine devised by British experts. They set out to design mines which the Germans could not sweep, and they succeeded so well that the Allies themselves do not know how to lift them from a 40mile stretch of the Weser, from Bremerhaven to Bremen, where they were sown by the Royal Air Force and the United States Bth Air Force. Until a means of dealing with the mines is found Bremen must remain closed. “Germans have been given the task of clearing the river, and German minesweepers are gingerly nosing into the mined waters, learning by trial and error."
