HAMILTON BY-ELECTION
Sir,—The fact that the electors of Hamilton in their voting and in their listening rejected Mr J; A. Lee does not, as "Democrat" claims, indicate that Labour is on the way out. Mr Lee did intend to and was successful in splitting the Labour vote. His policy is to open the door for reaction. In stating that those who voted for Mr Lee would have refrained from voting had he not been a candidate, "Democrat" merely indicates his lack of political consciousness. ,Many who support Mr Lee support him because they believe he is further to the Left than Labour: and if he had not been a candidate would have voted Labour m preference to reactionary Nationalist. If Labour is ever defeated it will be because pseudo Leftists, with Goeb-bels-like propaganda, mislead the unthinking ''progressives?" among the workers.—Yours, etc., .„.,„ A. G. WILLIAMS. > Secretary, North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee. May 31, 1^45.
