TRAINING FOR TRADES
REHABILITATION OF SERVICEMEN
The number of former servicemen who had been approved by the Rehabilitation Department by April 50 last for various forms of trade training was 2919. Of these 2211 were men returned irom service overseas, and the remaining 708 were demobilised home service personnel. Under train ing at the deparlment’s full-time training centres at the end of April were 608, with a funher 104 at the different branches of the Disabled Servicemen’s Re-establishment League There were also 677 being trained with private employers on a' subsid: from the Rehabilitation Board, and 332 men who had resumed or revived pre-service apprenticeships under a somewhat similar subsidy arrangement. Those who had actually completed training in one or another of the various forms offered numbered 789 at April 30, In all categories there had been 342 men who had to that datei discontinued their training because of ill-health or other reasons During April 166 former servicemen were approved for trade training under the department's schemes. In that month 174 actually commenced training. 37 completed their courses, and 13 for varying reasons, discontinued.
