WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION
Christchurch.—Mrs Harper presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Motions of sympathy were passed with Mrs Boyce and Mrs Chapman, who had suffered bereavements, also with Mrs Henderson In her illness. An appeal for tinned food for the starving peoples of Europe, met with a very ready response, and several donations of money were also handed In. The Government domestic assistance scheme—tallowing a suggestion from the Women’s Division Advisory Board concerning the division's part in ft, was approved by members. Winners of the competition were Mesdames Wornall. Chapman. Lund, and Templeton, The hostesses were Mesdames Atkinson, and Saunders. Yaldhurst.—Mrs Crawford presided at the monthly meeting of the Yaldhurst branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union. A report on the annual meeting of the provincial executive was given. Members agreed to support the appeal for tinned food for Britain. Winners of competitions were as follows; heaviest potato; .Mrs T A. Guy 1. Mrs Crawford 2, Mrs and Miss Chappell 3 (equal); bloom. Miss M Curtis 1 Mrs Crawford 2. Mrs Johnstone 3. An amusing competition was won by Misses M. Curtis and I. Crawford. The hostesses were Mesdames Guy and L. Franks. Prizes won for most points • gained during the last yea£ were presented to Mrs H. V. Tnch, first, and Miss. Peagram and Miss Curtis (equal), second. A small gift was presented to Mrs Basher who has left the district.
