CONSERVATION OF FAT
Sir,—l write from my fireside hoping I can yet save some tons ox tax xor England. (1) The price of a fourgallon tin of fat to-day collected by the farmer's wife is not the of a useful and often scarce four-gaUou tin. Result: many thousands of tins of fat are not saved for the people of England, (2) Bad schedule prices for fat wethers oyer 721b weight forces them to be worth 6s to 9s each more on the local butchers' market, instead of them going to England. (3) Millions of rabbits lyill shortly be poisoned with strychnine. _ Organised drives under proper supervision could catch some of these in suitable areas, each one a feed for four people. (41. Hires by tens of thousands lessen our pea and lupin crops. Nothing is done to assist with cartridges and organised hare drives. .Yours, etc., ARTHUR SHAND. Culverden, May 15, 1845.
