HOUSING SHORTAGE

Sir,—One source of supply has evidently been overlooked. I am referring to the fact that here in Sumner and no doubt in Diamond Harbour, Brighton, etc., numerous , houses—not mere bachesf hut good houses, are occupied for a few weeks each year and shut up the rest of the lime. In Australia, no house is allowed to be shut up fbr more than a few weeks. If it is, it is commandeered by the Government for a returned man. Why cannot the same be applied here? Many of us are desperate, and only desperate measures can remedy this state of affairs.—Yours, etc., ' HOMELESS. 1 Sumner, April 15, 1845.
