Miss Flora Cameron (Seddon), a member of the Dominion executive of Women’s Institutes, who has been visiting the West Coast, is now in Christchurch. She addressed the annual meeting of the Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes held yesterday.

After being on leave in the Dominion since the end of last year, Mrs B. Chapman, daughter of Mrs and the late Mr T. H. Lowry, Hawke’s Bay, is to return overseas. It is expected that she will serve as a hostess in one of the Y.M.C.A. leave clubs for men of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in Italy. When she returned to New Zealand. Mrs Chapman had been for more than three years with the New Zealand Y.M.CA. in the Middle East, and was mentioned, in dispatches for her work there. She has recently visited her sister. Mrs R. Bettington, in Sydney. The following members were yesterday elected to the executive committee of the Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes: —Mesdames W. Waugh, H. Prebble. A. Morten, R. F. Pilkington, Miss V. Bowis. Mesdames M. Davis. Ross Macdonald. S. Candy, and L. G. Billcliff.

There was a good attendance at the monthly social gathering held at the Welcome Club yesterday afternoon by the Next-of-Kin Society The president (Mrs C. Thornton) presided, and a programme arranged by Mrs Claude Davies was presented by Mrs Davies, Mrs J. Colthart. Mrs Clifton Mogg. Mrs A. H. Scott, and Mrs W. H. Collins. A short address was given by the Rev. Canon Nelham Watson.

Mrs Flower presided at the monthly meeting of the New Brighton branclj of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. It was reported that a presentation is to be made to Mrs H. Hale for her many years of- service as secretary of the Band of Hone, and that a letter of thanks and anpreclation be sent to the Rev. and Mrs Allon Carr for their work in the -union and Band of Hone. At the annual garden party recently held in the grounds of Mr and Mrs H. M, Hall's home a verv-success-ful bring and buy stall was held, the proceeds to go to the general funds. The Hawarden Next-of-Kin Society held its April meeting at the home of, the president. Horsley Down. Members answered the roll call giving the latest news of their eons m me services. Mesdames Warwick and Wild, ing were hostesses.

There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Riccarton Garden Club held at the home of Mrs J. R. Templin. Heaton street. Mr Tindill gave an interesting talk on chrysanthemums. A competition for tn, best chrysanthemum was won. in .both classes by Mrs J- R- Temnlin. The competition for the best hand posv was won by Mrs W. Milne Shand. with Mrs H. Duckworth second, and Mrs R. T Tosswill third. The president (Mrs U K. Merton) thanked the speaker and the hostesses for their kindness.
