WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

ANNUAL MEETING HELD About 'BO representatives of 31 women's institutes in the district bounded by the Rakaia and Walmakariri rivers, attended the thirteenth annual meeting of the Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes held in the Y.W.C.A. hall, yesterday. The president, Miss E. Le Lievre, presided. The annual report reviewed the activities carried out during the year. These included spinning by the Akaroa and Lincoln institutes, the giving of tea at the Welcome Club, active interest taken in the Crippled Children Society, National Council of Women. Sunlight League Health Camp Committee, Home Service Association, and Food Controller’s Committee. Members had also helped with the packing of patriotic parcels, with the Plunket society’s appeal at the Winter Show, with the sale of National Savings Stamps and with the Mayoress’s appeal for the Maori Girls’ College. In the institute’s Helper Scheme it was reported that help had been supplied to harassed mothers for 87 weeks, and much more relief,could have been given if more helpers were 3VBil&bl6» The statement of receipts and expenditure showed a slight credit balance.
