REGIONAL PLANNING COMMITTEE
REPRESENTATION FOR TEMUKA A claim that Temuka should be tepresented on the executive,of the South Canterbury Regional Planning. Committee was made by Mr W. H. McMillan at a meeting of the Temuka Rehabilltatlon Committee. ■ . Mr McMillan said that, as a result of a ballot taken at the 1 last meeting of the Regional Planning Council, three members from Wairoate, three from Tunaru. two from the Geraldine Borough, and one from both the Levels and the Mackenzie Counties were elected to the executive. The whole of the Temuka area was left without representation. ‘‘Mr J. W. Mawson, Town Planning Officer, said that the council would not be fettered by control from Wellington and that the development of South Canterbuiy would be better carried out by the people of the province, l *’ continued Mr McMillan. "If this was sp, surely, the development' of the Temuka district would he better left to representatives of that area."
The view was expressed by members of the Rehabilitation Committee that the matter would be better dealt with through action by the Borough Council and it was agreed that the chairman (Mr G. A. Harris) bring the question before the next meeting of the Temuka Borough Council.
