POINTS FROM OTHER LETTERS
"Prevention” advises mothers with small children not to allow them to play in the sun without some hat or bonnet. “After this long spell of no sunshine." he writes, “the sun will be too much for their unprotected necks and may easily cause severe sunstroke or even lead to infantile paralysis.” “Theatre-goer” writes: “Permit me to inform ‘Theatre-lover’ that the opinions I had the ‘audacity' to express are widely held, not only in Christchurch but also in Wellington, where critics said that Miss Marsh’s productions were marred with ‘tricks of latter-day cheap sophistication' and with other crudities that are incompatible with artistic unity.” “Winabet” asks: “Could you or any of your readers settle an argument for me by giving an answer to the following ouestion? Is there any difference, in the strength of horsepower of an electric motor or petrol engine or steam engine? For instance, if I wanted to substitute electricity for steam power, would a 10 h.p. motor give me the same pulling power as a 10 h.p. steam winch, if given the same gearing?"
