MUFTI ALLOWANCE
Sir,—l was discharged from the Army recently. 1 served three years in the home service, unfortunately ,not being fit for overseas, although rapplied to go. At the time of writing I have not received my mufti allowance. I should like to knbw what I am supposed ,to wear until the allowance arrives, as the pay received will barely buy a sports coat, let alone the other necessary clothing. Of course, I have boots, underwear, etc., from the Army, but no trousers. I was on North Island strength so the fact that all settlements must come from Wellington may account for some delay, but I cannot see why about two 'months should elapse before payment, as the application for it was signed in Wellington in December, 1944. Since then I have twice written to the Accountant, Army H.Q., but, as yet, have received no reply.—Yours, etc., NUDIST. February 15, 1945. [The Army Secretary says: “It is regretted that no specific reply can be given /without more details of the particular case being available, You will appreciate that, until the man’s number, name, unit, etc., are available, no investigation of his statements can be made. In ordinary circumstances no normal case of application for mufti allowance should take two months to be dealt with.”]
