FAILURE TO STOP
* —_ MONTH’S IMPRISONMENT .IMPOSED (PA.J WELLINGTON. Dec. 19. Mr Justice Smith in the Supreme Court to-day. sentenced William Clifford Bernice Symons, aged 28, to a month's imprisonment with hard labour, for failure to stop a motor-car after an accident. What counsel said there had been no attempt on the prisoner’s part to run away, his Honour said he thought there was an element. of dishonesty in failing to stop when a man knew he had hit another vehicle. A very serious accident might have resulted as a result of prisoner’s behaviour, and it was his duty to Impose a term of imprisonment. James Moana. aged 19. of Ruatoria, was placed on probation for three years for attempted rape. His Honour acted on the Fnibatlen Officer’s advice, and said the sentence must not be taken as an encouragement tp other young men on the East Coast to act similarly.
