A report on a petition from 21 residents of Simeon and Sydney streets complaining of the stabling of horses in a paddock surrounded by houses was presented by the by-laws and finance committee at a meeting of the Christchurch City Council last evening. On investigation, stated the report, it had been found that the stables were the requisite distance away from dwellings, but that some of the boundary fences allowed the horses to approach too close to the houses. Arrangements were being made to ensure that the by-laws were complied with by the erection of barriers to prevent the horses from straying within a chain of any house. Cr. J. N. Clarke said he had inspected the area of the alleged nuisance, and had not found much_ to complain about. Steps were being taken to see that everything was done to eliminate any nuisance.
