LABOUR MOVEMENT CONFERENCES

MEETINGS THIS MONTH Two hundred delegates will attend two annual conferences of the Labour movement in Wellington early next month. The conferences were postponed from Easter because of rail travel restrictions. The annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Labour will begin on November 1, and will be followed by the annual conference of the New Zealand Labour Party, which will open on November 6, and extend over three or four days. The federation conference will be presided over by the Hon. A. McLagan, M.L.C., who has again been re-elecied national president unopposed, a position he has held since the federation was formed in 1937. The national secre-tary-treasurer. Mr F D. Cornwall, who has also held office since 1937, is retiring Nominees for the post are Messrs K. Baxter, J H. Collins, and P A. Hansen, of Wellington, and H Kay. of Hastings. There are also tour nominees for the position of vice-presi-dent, at present held by Mr A. W. Croskery. Opposing him are Messrs J. Flood, G. T Thurston, and P. E. Warner. There are 11 nominations for the two positions as national executive members, at present held by Messrs F. C. Allerby and F. P. Walsh.
