BANKS PENINSULA SHOW
Sir,—l was astonished to read in your paper that the Banks Peninsula show is not to be held this year. I think the committee is making a great mistake in letting down exhibitors, supporters, and the general public, •not to mention the tradespeople who have for years supported the show. Was every endeavour made to get a train? Were the local member of Parliament and Minister of Railways approached? Even without a train surely it was possible to get further support from members for this year. Last year the show committee considered that it could not make a success of a gymkhana for patriotic purposes. Another committee ran one and made a net profit of £ll6, in spite of inclement weather. T think the show could do likewise. I suggest that before it is K too late the committee should call a special meeting of members and test their views and pockets.—Yours, etc., DISAPPOINTED MEMBER AND EXHIBITOR. October 18. 1944. [When this letter was referred to Mr P. J, Byrne, secretary of the Banks Peninsula Agricultural and Pastoral Association, he said that the Minister of Railways had been approached and the information was given that no train could be made available. The general committee of the association therefore decided that as the show would only cater for local exhibitors, the association was not justified in carrying on with the arrangements.]
