SELWYN PLANTATION BOARD

REPORT OF SUPERINTENDENT The results of tests of pine seed sent to Wellington had been received, and it was shown'that both lots (insignis and Oregon), were exceptionally good, the figures for Oregon being particularly gratifying, stated the report of the Superintendent (Mr E. A. Cooney) presented at a meeting of the Selwyn Plantation Board yesterday. The pinus insignis proved 99.4 per cent, sound in the cutting test, the tree utility was 77.7 per cent., and the germinative capacity 97.4 per cent., while the Oregon was 99.7 per cent, sound, the tree utility was 61.4 per cent., and the germinative capacity was 86.4 per cent. The 12 Indian satchel fire pumps had arrived from Wellington, and the Malvern and neighbouring counties had acquired pumps, so there should be an improvement in fire-fighting technique within the board’s protection area, the report added.
