ATTACK AGAINST HUNGARY
RED ARMY BEGINS ADVANCE (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 23. Simultaneously with the • statement by the Exchange. Telegraph Agency’s Moscow correspondent that the Russians have launched a combined land and air assault against Hungary, the Official German News Agency this morning announced that the Russians had gone over to the attack with strong forces in the area of Turda. The agency admitted that the Russians had made local breaches. The Hungarians and Germans were counter-attacking. , Other Russian forces in the upper bend of the Carpathians are massing in front of the Czechoslovakia frontier, completing the upper arm of the vast arc taking in a large part of Slovakia, the whole of the lower Carpathians and German-occupied Transylvania. A Russian communique says that the Russians in western Rumania, in co-operation with the Rumanian army, occupied the town and large railway centre of Arad, also more than 50 inhabited localities, •
