MONTHLY MEETING HELD
The monthly meeting, of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Rooms, (to Chester street, Mrs Cecil Wood presiding over a large attendance. Mrs Alec Gray, a new member, was welcomed to the committee. For the Plunket Rooms, Nurse Allan reported as follows:—pre-natal section: expectant mothers interviewed for the first time 31, return visits 155, cases under observation 127; post-natal section: new baby cases, city and suburban, 173, outstations 29; visits to homes: city and suburbs 579, outstations 140; visits to rooms: central, 1386 adults', 929 babies, 222 preschool children: suburban: 2109 adults, 2043 babies, 113 pre-school children; outstations: 312 adults, 271 babies. 56 preschool children. Number of baby cases under supervision: 2863; pre-school children 4320 Telephone consultations, 781. For the Lady King Karitane Hospital, the matron, Miss Gibbs, reported that 23 babies had been admitted, and 26 discharged. Eleven mothers had been admitted to the mothercraft section and 15 discharged. Among those admitted was a premature baby from Westland, weighing only 2Jlb He is now progressing splendidly. Gifts from Messrs Flay and McLaren, and donations from Temuka and Hororata branches were gratefully received.
