COLLABORATIONISTS SHOT
* * INCIDENT IN DEAUVILLE (Bee. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 23. Within a few hours of the arrival of British and Belgian troops in Deauville yesterday, nine collaborationists had died. “No one knows how they died,” says a war correspondent. ‘‘They were shot, and to-day, when I asked leaders of the French resistance movement why they had been shot, they said they supposed that it was when they were trying to escape from the town. Also the wrath of the local people would have come down on their heads. “Four other collaborationists were arrested by the local police while I was in the town this morning. “The town presented a dead appearance with all the shops closed, and few people appeared at the doors. A few shells were screaming oveihead from our guns behind .the town which were bombarding enemy positions on the high ground. The people told us that some of the enemy were still in the casino and also on the high ground behind.” __
