ADVANCES IN UPPER ARNO VALLEY (Bee. 1.15 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 24. To-day’s Allied communique from Italy says: “Polish and Italian troops of the Bth Army in the Adriatic sector are now firm on the banks of the Metauro and are in contact with strong enemy positions on the north bank of the river 12 miles from the coast. British and Indian troops of the Bth Army in the Upper Arno Valley have again been quick to take advantage of lessening enemy resistance and have made a considerable advance on both sides of the river, capturing a number of important features, including Monteforesto. , , , “There was considerable patrol activity in the Florence area on Tuesday night, and also several clashes between enemy patrols and patrols of the Bth Army and patriots. These resulted in enemy casualties. Fifth Army patrols are active west of Florence.”
