INCREASE IN RATES
Sir, —I see we are to have mi increase in rates and a 50 per cent, rise in salary for the Mayor. The Nationalists are making a good start. I sincerely hope the working people will think well before the next election. If the Nationalist Party gets m the first thing they will do will be to cut down wages. We would be worse under a Nationalist government. The Labour Government might have made a few mistakes; but Labour every time. Yours, etc.. LA b O UB. August 3, 1944.
Sir—At this time, when there is general agreement that effective stabilisation is desirable, our merry councillors increase rates to unprecedented heights. It is my intention to have next years rate demand framed and hung m a prominent place in case my memory should prove too short at the next municipal elections. —Yours, etc., MILOKU. August 4, 1944.
