ALLEGED FORGERY OF COUPONS
CHARGES UNDER OIL FUEL REGULATIONS
(P.A.) WHANGAREI, August 5. The first prosecution in the Dominion after the Government announcement that forged petrol coupons were being circulated was brought in the Whangarei Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when Donald Lamon. aged 31. a salesman, and Charles White, aged 32, a farmer, were charged before Justices of the Peace. Lamon was charged that, at Auckland on June 29, he forged a card of petrol coupons with intent that they should be acted on as genuine, and that, at Whangarei, on the same date, he conspired with Charles White and others unknown to commit the crime of uttering forged petrol coupons. White was charged with conspiring with Lamon and others to utter forged petrol coupons. Both pleaded not guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
Detective-Sergeant Finlay gave evidence that on June 30 he took possession at the Settlers’ Hotel of a newspaper parcel containing 121 full cards and hall a card ol current petrol coupons.
