FOOD RATIONS IN BRITAIN
—— MAINTENANCE THOUGHT LIKELY (Rcc. 1.10 a.m.) LONDON, June 9 As far as he was able to judge the existing food rationing scales would be maintained for the remainder of Ahe year, except for milk, which was the subject of seasonal fluctuation, said the Minister of Food (Colonel J. J. Llewclr lin) in the House of Commons. Allied armies needed to take with them a certain amount of food for the civilians they liberated. He had undertaken during the early part of the period, and as long as stocks allowed, to make a generous contribution towards such supplies. Colonel Llewellin added that he had invited Australia and New Zealand to sell to Britain all their surplus beef, nutlon, lamb, and dairy products until the end of June, 1948. Both Governments had accepted the proposal in Di’inciple. Brits in had also undertaken .o purchase the whole exportable sugar production from the Dominions and colonies to the end of 1946.
