ELECTION RESULTS

Sir, —The spokesman for Labour in Christchurch, Mr John Roberts, says that it will take another depression to make the workers think. Labour claims that it knows how to avoid depressions, but if Labour must have a depression to make the workers think, what then? They cannot vote for the Nationalists, remembering the last one, and remembering the next one, they can’t vote for Labour. So what’s next?— Yours, etc., W, B. BRAY. May 30. 1944. Sir,—Mr John Roberts’s comment on the set-back his party has just experienced states: ‘‘lt will apparently need another depression to bring them to their senses.” Mr Roberts evidently realises now that hungry people will swallow almost anything, whereas those who have become satisfied may pick and choose. —Yours, etc., ONLOOKER. May 30, 1944.
