MATERNAL MORTALITY

Sir,—The Plunket Society has celebrated its thirty-seventh anniversary with well-deserved acclaim for all it has done to reduce the infaht mortality rate in this country until it is one of the lowest in the world. Would you mind telling us women if there has been a corresponding reduction in the maternal mortality rate, and where we stand in relation to the rest of the world in this regard? Probably the new St. Helens Obstetrical Hospital will be commenced at the end of the year. When will it be finished? — Yours, etc., L. McCALLUM. May 26. 1944.
