CITY MILK SUPPLY
Sir, —W. H. Davies and his colleagues have failed to produce a single logical argument against a municipal milk supply,, but have relied on fantastic and incorrect statements about the Wellington scheme. Municipal control of other hygienic services, such as water, sewers, rubbish collection, street cleaning, etc., was inevitable, and no reasonable person would wish to revert to the system which obtained before municipal control of these services. .What resident within the sewerage area would wish to go back to the old system of night-soil collection? A municipal milk supply is inevitable, because the health of the citizens is concerned. The system of milk delivery by can and dipper may have been quite reasonable 40 years ago, when the producer-vendors were able by a double daily delivery to deliver milk within a few. hours of production, but what was good enough in 1900 is not good enough in 1944. Yours, etc., G. W. DELL. May 25, 1944.
