INDUSTRY AFTER WAR
N.Z. MANUFACTURERS’ DISCUSSION SPECIAL SURVEYS TO BE MADE A general survey of the steps to oe taken to create machinery for the eventual conversion of industry from . war-time organisation to a peace establishment was the main business of the quarterly council meeting of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation which was held in Christchurch last week. Preliminary arrangements were made to carry out certain surveys affecting aspects of the manufacture and sale of New Zealand made goods both npw and under conditions anticipated in the post-war period. 1°^ ® c itiing to begin its surveys now, the federation considered that its action was justified and required by the immensity of the task of rehabilitating some 100,000 service personnel as well as those persons engaged in many purely war industries. Specific consideration of the rehabilitation and post-war arrangements was given at a one-day meeting of the council s rehabilitation sub-committee. As a result several recommendations were made to the council, affecting both present means of rehabilitating servicemen and the problems envisaged in the transitional period at the end of the war. Incorporated in the federation’s considerations was an analysis of the newly formed Organisation for National Development, further consideration of which is to be given by a special committee appointed by the council.
