CHRISTCHURCH MILK SUPPLY
Sir,—With the change-over in the collection of milk for town supply on April 1, the Mayor promised both the consumer and producer better quality and service. Before the change-6ver my milk left the dairy at 6.30 a.m. each morning. Since April 1 the milk has left my dairy at the following times each day: April 1, 12.30 p.m.; April 2, 1 p.m.; April 3, 2 p.m.; April 4, 12.15 p.m. This includes the night's milk. Will the Mayor please tell the consumer and producer where they are getting better quality and service?— Yours, etc., PRODUCER. April 4, 1944. Sir,—Before April 1, all the milk in my district left the dairies for the city between the hours of. 6.30 and 9.30 a.m. Since the change-over in collecting, the milk has left my dairy at the following hours, from April 1 to 4 respectively: 12.30 p.m„ 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 12.30 p.m. This all includes the night's milk, milked at 4.30 p.m. daily. How can consumers receive fresh milk, collected at these unreasonable hours?— Yours, etc., TOWN SUPPLY. April 4, 1944. ["The lateness of the collection which, so far as I am aware, applies! to only one district, has already been brought to my notice," said the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr E. HI Andrews. "I am in entire agreement that collections at the hours stated are unsatisfactory. The complaints have been brought to the notice of the collecting company and the need to reorganise the collections has been emphasised. The matter will also be brought before the! next meeting of the Zoning Committee."] Sir, —Whether Mr Dell knows or not, the consumers should know. I called on a dairy farmer, a friend of mine, one Sunday. What a surprise I got! Saturday night's, Sunday morning's, and Sunday night's milk, all waiting in the dairy to be collected by a .company.— Yours, etc., t RETIRED FARMER. April 5, 1944.
